Category “B96” – this is the so-called “Category B driving licence with extended scope”. It is indicated in the driving licence by harmonisation code No. “96”: a vehicle combination with a maximum permitted trailer weight exceeding 750 kg, provided that the maximum permitted weight of the entire combination exceeds 3,500 kg but does not exceed 4,250 kg.
It is sufficient to pass the so-called “supplementary examination” pursuant to Section 45a of Act No. 247/2000 Coll.
From 1 January 2024, every driver within a period of 2 years from the granting of a driving licence is monitored to determine whether they have committed an offence or a criminal act for which 6 penalty points have been recorded in the Driver Register.
Attention – according to the wording of the law, the following conditions also apply to drivers who, as of 1 January 2024, have held a driving licence for less than two years. What does “granting of a driving licence” mean? According to the law, this essentially means the granting of any first driving licence for the category for which it can be obtained for the first time, i.e. AM, A1, A2, B, T. Other driving licence categories are considered an “extension”.

If such an offence is recorded for a novice driver in the Driver Register, for which 6 penalty points are assigned, the Driver Register will invite the driver to complete a novice driver training course.
